MoNA Style 2013: Wearable Art Sale
Saturday, March 16, 2013, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
For one day only, discerning shoppers can choose outstanding examples of wearable art and art for the home at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner. The Museum has been totally given over to 35 hand-picked artists from the Northwest. All of their unique, handmade creations are for sale and part of each sale goes to support the Museum. This is the 29th consecutive year of MoNA Style, one of the Museum’s most popular annual events. Free entry is made possible by Key Bank, La Conner.
MoNA Style highlights artistic creativity and attracts many visitors to the Museum as well as the town of La Conner. An exciting variety of handmade items can be purchased directly from the artists. These include: elegant scarves; fanciful hats of all shapes; baskets woven from unconventional materials; and prize-winning jewelry. The artists are paid a commission for all sales and the balance assists the Museum’s mission to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret art by Northwest artists.
Feltmaker Nancy Dean is showing unique hats with images of Northwest birds. Willow from her own trees is used by Katherine Lewis for her unconventional baskets. Teri Jo Summer’s garments and accessories are sewn one at a time with an exquisitely refined sensibility. Lori Bellamy’s jewelry can be an interactive and kinetic experience, Ulrieke Benner will be showing Art You Wear in felt and silk, and Engayla’s Designs will be presenting leather purses, belts, accessories and jewelry. Margot Meyers will be sharing her functional pieces for the home, each printed and dyed by her hand, and Jane Penman’s stone and silver necklaces are “landscape within architecture.” In addition, MoNA Style is excited to introduce the capes, capelets and scarves of Linda Smeins. This is just a small sampling of the inspired work available at MoNA Style 2013. For more detailed information on all of the participating artists, please visit MoNA’s website at www.museumofnwart.org.
