Inspired by Istanbul’s skyline of historic domes and minarets alongside modern buildings, Boyd Sugiki creates a series of forms reminiscent of architecture. In blown glass, he portrays towers and cupolas in simplified forms, each structure made up of multiple parts fitted together with a precision that matches their elegance. With a technique developed over several years, Sugiki’s work represents a high degree of skill and a keen sense of balance and proportion. The overall effect of the work in Layers is a cityscape, its silhouettes reflecting the timelessness and solidity of the modern urban landscape.
