PAUL HORIUCHI: EAST AND WEST


THROUGH JUNE 15, 2008

Barbara Johns has selected over 60 works for this major retrospective of the late master artist Paul Horiuchi. Included are early watercolors, sculptures, collage paintings and multi-panel screens. Art work dates from the 1920s through the mid-1990s and is borrowed from prominent private, corporate, and public collections.

The book, Paul Horiuchi: East and West, authored by Barbara Johns, has been released in conjunction with this exhibition. This 128-page book, published by the University of Washington Press in partnership with the Museum of Northwest Art, is designed by Phil Kovacevich. Enriched with over 120 images, it includes documentary photographs and works of art.

Family Art Day: Poetic Animal Screens
With Barbara Summers, artist and art educator
Session One: 11am-1pm OR Session Two: 2-4pm

Inspired by the elegant collage paintings of Paul Horiuchi, create colorful imaginative tri-fold screens. Barbara will provide handsome animal images, material for a 9" x 12" screen, and an assortment of handmade papers. Your haiku will add the finishing touch.

Ann Morris has created an extraordinary park on Lummi Island. Sculpture Woods: Studio Grounds of Ann Morris, includes a forward by Susan Parke and essays by Ted Lindberg and Jake Seniuk. The book is published by Marquand Books and distributed by the University of Washington Press. Meet the artist, view selected smaller works, and enjoy this informal book signing party!
